Single Review: Arcade Fire's 'Reflektor' - and their new album release!

Being a huge Arcade Fire fan, I’ve feel as though I have been kept waiting for their new album for far too long. But finally, three long years after ‘The Suburbs’ was released we have been given a hint of their fresh sound.

‘Reflektor’ is their leading single, in light of their near album release, and if you haven’t heard this song yet, where have you been! If this is the case, I urge you to listen to it ASAP. Overall, I love this song, despite it being completely different to their past songs. It has a more of a dance feel to it, which feels too obscure for Arcade Fire, but ultimately intriguing. Despite the upbeat tone, lyrically it makes you question death - which in turn suggests heaven and death as a theme for the album!

Arcade Fire released an interactive video to go alongside their single, as well as an alternative video - aren’t we a lucky bunch! I don’t want to give too much away but it’s worth having a look at it on www.justareflektor.com. The alternative video, directed by Anton Corbijin, is no disappointment either - with its individual and quirky style, in which bobble-heads make their second appearance (first début in Sprawl II) showing them in some sort of urgent heist.

It is said that their new, highly-anticipated album will be released on the 28th October. They have created quite the buzz around, with surprise appearances in American and tour dates being hinted at. Overall, Arcade Fire seem to have a grip on another award-winning album. My only worry is that with this new found disco tone, how will it compare with Grammy-award winning ‘The Suburbs’?
